Background of the study
Workplace conflict is an inevitable aspect of organizational life that can significantly impact employee performance and organizational culture. In Ikom, local government workers often encounter conflicts arising from differences in opinions, resource allocation, and administrative processes (Ejiogu, 2023). Effective conflict resolution strategies are essential to maintain a harmonious work environment and to ensure that disputes do not escalate into major disruptions. This study investigates the various conflict resolution techniques employed within local government settings, such as mediation, negotiation, and collaborative problem-solving (Ike, 2024). It also examines how these strategies influence overall organizational productivity and employee morale. Recent research highlights the importance of early conflict intervention and the role of leadership in fostering a culture of open communication and mutual respect (Akinola, 2023). By integrating theoretical frameworks with empirical evidence from local government workers, the study aims to identify best practices and propose actionable recommendations for improving conflict resolution processes in public institutions. The insights gained are expected to contribute to the development of more effective workplace policies and enhance the quality of public service delivery.
Statement of the problem
Local government workers in Ikom face recurring conflicts that adversely affect job performance and morale (Obi, 2023). Despite the adoption of various conflict resolution strategies, unresolved disputes continue to disrupt work processes and hinder productivity. The existing approaches appear to be insufficient in addressing the root causes of conflict, leading to prolonged tensions and inefficiencies. This study seeks to examine the effectiveness of current conflict resolution methods and identify areas for improvement, with the goal of fostering a more cohesive and efficient working environment (Chukwu, 2024).
